THE BASIC TEN
Here are 10 questions most frequently asked by our students..
Can I learn to dance?
Dancing is as easy as walking once a student is taught by one of our
helpful instructors.. There is no age limit. Our oldest students are over 90.
The youngest are usually in their early teens. The great majority of our student
body are in their 20s,30s, and 40s.
Will it take long to learn?
The length of each course depends on how many dances the student would
like to learn and how proficient they would like to become in each dance. However,
students will see that they will be able to dance after their first lesson.
We try to encourage students to learn at their own pace based on recommendations
from their instructor. No two students are alike.
Is your system of teaching difficult?
Not at all! We teach four simple basic movements, from which the new
combinations are derived.
How much do the lessons cost?
The cost depends on a number of factors: how good the student wants
to be; what dances they want to learn; the number of days and weeks in their
dance schedule, etc. The first lesson is free. After your first lesson, we will
be in a better position to recommend a program and the student will have the
knowledge to make an intelligent and informed choice.
Does the fee have to be paid in advance?
There are several convenient methods of payment available. Payment
in full is the most hassle free method, but if the student prefers, we can budget
the fee in small installments to suit individual needs.
What steps will I learn?
Students can learn the very latest steps in any or all social dances:
Swing, Salsa, Rumba, Fox Trot, Cha Cha,
Tango, Waltz, Samba, Merengue, Mambo, etc. Novelty or fad dances are also
taught. See our home page for a list of current dances.
Will I have to return each year to learn
the newest steps?
After getting a good foundation, students will be able to analyze
the newest steps and pick them up themselves without difficulty. However,
many students return because they enjoy their lessons, the friends, fun and
confidence they have found at Arthur Murray Sherman Oaks.
May I take the lesson at any time convenient
to me?
Students may take their lessons at any time they wish. Our studios
are open from 1:00 PM until 10:00 PM Monday through Friday; Saturday 1:00 PM
until 5:00 PM.
Will I have a good teacher?
All of our teachers are expertly trained and are continuously improving
their craft. The teachers assigned to each student are matched by who
best suits each other's personality. To qualify as Arthur Murray teachers,
we must complete an extremely arduous training regimen.
What benefits do I derive?
Dancing is a primary social activity. Good dancing is a lifetime
investment in fun, poise, confidence, improved social comfort and new friends.
Beyond these, dancing is a superb physical conditioner- providing fun without
working at it! It opens up a wonderful new world of togetherness and
a thriving year-round social calendar!
